Horizontal Integration, the second-largest web design and development firm in the Twin Cities, brought me on to help shape a new brand voice to elevate the organization to a fuller-scale digital marketing agency.
A renowned event in the world of IT and digital marketing—the Sitecore Symposium—presented an opportunity for Horizontal Integration to establish a powerful presence as leaders in the Sitecore realm.
This Is Our Domain
The playfully audacious tagline set the tone for twenty HI team members in uniform to command the Las Vegas conference space—inviting endless engagement from other attendees. By the time HI founding partner Chris Staley claimed the stage for his keynote, the audience knew exactly who HI was—and quickly learned of the firm’s impressive and extensive capabilities.

Sitecore’s “Own the Experience®” tagline and the two conference tracks, “Harnessing big data to own the experience” and “Know every customer—own every experience” along with the symposium’s Rock and Roll Vegas theme offered us the perfect opportunity for a little word play while HI celebrated ten years as Sitecore leaders.

An elite accolade from Sitecore, global leader in content management systems, afforded the perfect opportunity to showcase HI’s award and new direction.

The primary goal of this site redesign was to address some chaotic UX problems—but also to highlight the strength and effectiveness of the organization. Some intensive research on charitable giving demonstrated that individuals are more motivated to donate to causes that appear to have a simple and attainable solution. The site’s story unfolds around the impact one donation can have on one single individual and the cumulative effect on communities and, in turn, the entire globe.

Financial services leader Northwestern Mutual leveraged the enviable url, LifeInsurance.com, to appeal to a younger population (think: Millennial and Gen X) who is—for the most part—vastly undereducated on financial products like life insurance.
The tone is educational, never preachy or sales-y, and the bitesized content and interactive elements ensure a less-than-titillating topic is still engaging.
